Dr. S.M. Pandit (1916- 1993) was the foremost painter of his time, in the school of classical realism. Most of his subjects were inspired by ancient Indian literature. He bought a rare blend of artistic skill and sensitivity to his portrayal of romantic characters like Nala-Damayanti, Viswamitra-Menaka etc. and his works remain hugely popular even today.
